Foe all those who think the world is going to hell in a handbasket

| October 19th, 2011

Who came up with that stupid phrase and why did I use it?
Anyway; listen to this:

But if we live in the most peaceful time in human history why do we hear so many violent stories? Because due to the internet we have virtually unlimited access to information. If some one is murdered in Japan you can read about it on the other side of the earth.

Facebook “security” sucks royally

| October 3rd, 2011

Facebook security absolutely sucks. Facebook for some reason though I was trying to log on from another computer (maybey the cookie had expired or maybe it's because I have a new IP (new ISP)) and because of that facebooks shit security system locked me out of my account.
The only way to get back on was to give them the first numbers of my credit card numbers (which I never gave Facebook in the first place), idetefy my friends based on their photos (given how meant Facebook friends I have and most people have there is no fucking way that could have worked), I had not set up the "security" question because if I gave a real answer it would have made my account easy to hack (which is what those "security" questions actually do; make your accounts easer to hack) and I couldn't use my phone number because I actually intelligent enough to know not to give it out to any one online accept for institutions dealing with my money or my purchases or sells of goods and services (which are the ONLY places you give your phone number and or street addresses to online, NO ONE ELSE).
I sent Facebook a message about this (I had to look it up on Google to find out how because you can't find a way to contact Facebook on Facebook). I didn't even ask them to reinstate access to my account, all I did was notify them of the problem. I got in return an automatic response telling me how to reset my passward (which was not the problem) and if I was "still unable to complete this process" to send them a scan of my ID. They entered "you don't fucking ask for that" territory by asking for peoples phone numbers but asking for that is insane! There is no fucking way on this fucking earth in this fucking universe in the fucking multiverse that I was going to send them that information. That is privet, personal information that only the government and people dealing with MY money can ask for. Facebook has no right to ask for my phone number let alone information that can get my identity stolen and my credit and financial situation royally fucked.

My birth date shown on fFacebook
Yeah, real secure fucktards

Before I posted this I decided to give it one last try and and low and behold one more option: my birth date. I have long suspected that the idiots running Facebook are clinically insane and this just proved it to me.

How come no one knows how to write a good fucking tutorial!?

| August 19th, 2011
Copyright of Lone Wolf

Ever looked up a tutorial on the internet? How often have you ever learned how to do anything with a tutorial? I'm guessing not very often.

Tutorials have one simple purpose: to give you the knowledge and information needed to build what you want (within the limitations of what it's teaching you) using what ever the tutorial is teaching you how to use. You'd think that would be simple, or at least I would. I am apparently wrong though.
It should be simple; what does what and how to use it. So many tutorial writers don't see it that way. They write tutorials by taking something they have already made, cutting it up and vaguely explaining what does what. These types of tutorials suck. At best you can learn a little bit from them at worst you know less than when you started.

Lets say you want to to make a web site in PHP, nothing fancy, no MySQL, just a simple site written in PHP. A good tutorial would teach you basic coding, PHP statments, variables, functions, conditionals, loops, etc. A good tutorial will tech what these are and how to use them for example:

PHP code has to go between <?php and ?>

<?php

?>

The code between <?php and ?> will not show up in the actual page, any text you want to show up has to be after the echo statement

<?php
echo 'Hellow world';

?>

You notice the quotation marks and semi-colon, the text has to be between the quotation marks and it has to end in a semi-colon.

Now that is not a good tutorial (I wrote it really quickly) but it gives you what you need to know and how to use it. Taking something that you have made, cutting it up and splicing in text that vaguely explains what is what doesn't do that.

If your writing a tutorial you need to keep in mind that you are trying to teach people how to use and make their own code not giving them your code.

Rant: It’s the users who are responsible for their password security

| August 19th, 2011
Copyright of Lone Wolf

Have you ever been joining some site , you put in your password but it will not accept it, it wants you to put in a longer password, or it wants a number or it wants one of the character capitalized. These are all attempts to make the users use more secure passwords but they don't fucking work!
People are still going to use birth dates, pet names, family names, "12345", or just "password" as their passwords. It is these kinds of passwords that make it easy for people to hack other peoples accounts. The only way to ensure peoples passwords are secure is too give them a randomly generated password and not let them choose their password but people will hate that and not use the service.
Service providers need to realize that forcing people to have passwords with capitals, numbers, letters and symbols will not make them use passwords anymore secure than what they would otherwise use, it is up to the people to ensure the strength and security of their passwords, it is up to you to ensure the strength and security of your passwords.
I have multiple randomly generated passwords, a password with 6 characters using just numbers and letters will have 2,176,782,336 possible combinations. The odds of accurately guessing such a password is 1 in 3,023,308.8 or .000000033%.

Those stupid password recovery questions, they do not make any system more secure, they make the system less secure. Half the time you can get the answers to these questions just by friending the person on facebook.

People it is up to you to ensure the security and strength of your passwords. Take your security into your hands because you are the only one who can ensure your security.

Safety and Privacy on Facebook

| August 4th, 2011
Copyright of Lone Wolf

The Google+ debacle has inspired me to finely write something that has been floating in my head for a while. Not dealing with Google instead dealing with Facebook.

It has become clear over the years that the people who own face book don't give a shit about your privacy or your safety as exemplified by their facial recognition system (which is a stalkers wet dream) but you do need to stay safe and keep your privacy on the Internet.
