This rant is about libertarians (also known as closeted anarchists) who will be called "libbys" in this post. I'm not referring to all self proclaimed "libertarians", many only call them selfs "libertarians" because they don't like other labels and just want to be different. I'm referring to the other kind of libby: the closeted anarchist. They will deny they are anarchists just as most self proclaimed "agnostics" will deny that they are atheists but that doesn't change what they are: anarchists (specifically free market anarchists). Their political and economic stances are pretty much the same.
On to the main point.
First i do understand that some systems are self regulating. Science is a self regulating, self correcting system. There is no need for a government body to regulate it, in fact a governing body would only hamper science. The (non-news (not that I'm saying news should be regulated, it shouldn't)) media is also an example of a self regulating system. There is no need for the FCC or any organization or agency to say "no swearing, no sex and no tittys". Look at cable/satellite channels, except for movie channels and adult channels there are no swearing, no sex and no tittys in the morning, noon, afternoon, evening or prime time and when there are its usually late at night and these stations are not regulated by the FCC (because you pay for them). But what the libbys don't understand is: not all systems are self regulating!
Business is about making money and the businesses that make the most money do better. It is not the nice happy businesses that care about their employees, their customers and the environment that do better, its the ruthless, greedy (yet smart) businesses that will pay as little as they can to their employees, raise the prises as high as they can and still sell and dump their waste in the cheapest way possible that do better. This is why we need environmental regulations (within reason), minimum wages (again within reason), health and safety regulations, etc.

Free public schools are a necessity for a modern society. there are many things parents can't teach their children and the poor can't afford to send their children to privet schools. There is a strong correlation between poverty and education, a lack of education leads to greater poverty. If we were to abolish free public schools poverty would get worse and increase which would pull the economy as a whole down which would make even more people impoverished.
There are allot of things the government does for us. With out the government there would be no roads, no police and prisons (we would have to rely on bands of vigilantes (who would be no better than the criminals) to protect of thief's murders rapists etc) no fire department etc. And all that comes from paying taxes. With out taxes the government wouldn't have any money and they couldn't do the things that we benefit from.
And the whole anti-taxation is doubly stupid when you take into account the fact that with out taxes and all the things taxes pay for, you'll still be paying taxes! It will not be called taxes but you'll pay it or else a militia group, a gang, a group of vigilantes, people working for a war lord, etc will kill you!
