Its time for a good old fashioned rant: Bless your heart

Copyright of Lone WolfI live in Georgia and like most states in the south people are generally more religious and there are allot more religious. As result allot of people here say "bless your", "god bless you", "have a blessed day" and if there is something wrong with you "bless your heart"

This rant is not about me getting offended, its for my fellow atheists, the ones who are offended by the "bless" word. Word and phrases have no intrinsic meaning, we give words and phrases their meanings and the meanings of words and phrases can and do change with time.
You don't like the word, so change it. If people start using the word with out any religious connotation, the religious connotation will eventually go away. Make it another word that means "good" or "nice". Besides; this is already happening. How many people say "bless you" when someone sneezes? How many of those actually mean "bless you"? Most people say it because its traditional. The phrase "bless you" in response to a sneeze has pretty much lost any religious connotation it once had and the phrases "have a blessed day" and "god bless" are heading in the same direction. Why can't we speed it up?

Have a blessed day (or night).
