Social darwinism is the social philosophy that the "weak" and "unfit" should be left to die.[1]
Despite "darwin" being in the name it did not come from Darwin, it comes from Herbert Spencer.[1][2]
Eugenics is the social philosophy that human species should be "enhanced" by selective breeding of humans or worse forced sterilization and even murder of people deemed "genetically defective"[3]
Social darwinism and eugenics are not supported by the theory of evolution. The theory of evolution states that traits that increase an organisms fitness (chances for survival and reproduction) will be naturally selected for (by natural selection) so any trait the impacts an organism fitness will be weeded out by natural selection. And even with modern medicine natural selection still apples.[see Part 6 and 7] And the traits that lead us to create these medicines to help the sick and that lead us to help the less fortunate helped us become the dominant species on earth.
Social darwinmism is fallacious, spesificaly the naturalistic fallacy[2] (its natural this it must be good[4]) in reality wheather something is natural or not has no baring on wheather it is right or wrong.
Eugenics ignores the fact that a trait that seemingly decreases the fitness of an individual could have benefits that increase the individuals fitness. For insistence Sickle Cell Anemia is a genetic disease and it would seem clear cut that it negatively effects the fitness of a person however people with Sickle Cell Anemia are much less likely to catch Malaria and though both are fatal, Malaria is worse. Thus in places where there is a high risk of catching Malaria, those with the gene that cause Sickle Cell Anemia are more fit.[5][6]
Eugenics ignores the fact that more genetically diverse populations are more fit populations.[7][8]
Both eugenics and social darwinism ignores social and\or environmental conditions that can and do effect people health and inelegance. For insistence children who grew up in an old houses with lead paint could ingest or inhale the lead in the paint which could reduce there cognitive abilities.[9][10] Or a child with the right genes to become genius but who grows up in a heavily anti-intentional social enviroment or though he/she could be the next Einstein he/she/ grew up in economic conditions that prevented he/she from becoming the next Einstein.
