Evolution part 7: Survival of the fittest

One of the misconceptions about evolution has to do with "survival of the fittest". The misconception is based on the idea that survival of the fittest means that only biggest, strongest and meanest survive.

Survival of the fittest was not coined by Darwin, it was coined by philosopher Herbert Spencer before Darwin published Origin of Species.

The key word to the phrase is "fittest" which most people think means the biggest and strongest but in reality it does not. Fittest simply means those who have the greatest chance of survival. A wide variety of traits could make an organism fit, from the best camouflaged to the most intelligent to the smallest to the cooperation.
A good example is, a Moth; small, not that strong (relative to insects of similar size) but its camouflaged enables it to hide from predators thus the better camouflaged a Moth is the more fit it is. Another example is us; we have thin skin, bad night vision, one of the worse sense of smell in the animal kingdom relatively bad hearing, we can't run that fast (in comparison to other species of similar size), and we are social creatures, we are not the biggest, strongest and meanest yet we are one of the most fit species on earth.

Survival of the fittest is often use by advocates of social darwinism. I will tackle that in the next post.

Evolution is a sinful theory by a man who didnt even belive in it. Darwin repented on his deathbed and gave up his theory and took faith and saved his everlasting soul.

Evolution is a circular logic because it says survival of the fitest, and the fit are th eones that survive. Its survival of the people who survived.

And anyway how did it all get started in the first place without God? I don’t mean the silly big bang theory, I mean how did rocks start to be alive so they could have mutant babys that were smarter than them? It doesnt make any sense at al.

God created us in his image.

Darwin didn’t renounce the theory of evolution on his death bed, that is a creationist lie used to try and convince people that evolution is false. But it doesn’t really matter, what Darwin believed, what Einstein believed, what Newton believed have no baring on the theories they created or worked on. Tesla was brilliant but he was also crazy (Tesla claimed he could build a death ray, he claimed he built an earthquake machine), his ideas that worked survived while his crazy ideas didn’t. The scientific method weeds out theories and hypotheses that don’t work. It doesn’t matter who the theory or hypothesis comes from. Science is not like religion, it is not authoritarian, it doesn’t matter how famous a scientist is, if his theories and/or hypothesis can not stand on their own they don’t survive the scientific method.

Did you read the post? The statement “Evolution is a circular logic because it says survival of the fitest, and the fit are th eones that survive. Its survival of the people who survived.” makes it look like you haven’t. Read the post!

The theory of evolution does not explain the origins of life, the origins of the earth or the origins of the universe. The theory of evolution explains the fact of evolution. I explained this in part 1
