Evolution part 4: Thermodynamics

Creationists claim that evolution violates the 2nd law of thermodynamics. What the second law of thermodynamics?

Thermodynamics is the study of the transformation of energy from one form to another (for insistence a steam engine; burning wood turns water into steam which is used to move a piston up and down which then turns a wheel). The second law of thermodynamics is about entropy; its states the that entropy of a closed system tends to increase over time.

Now cause most creationists are scientifically illiterate they misunderstand what entropy means. Like with many words used in science they do not have the same meaning in science as they do in general usage. The general usage of the word "entropy" is disorder or chaos however in physics it means a system energy that is unavailable to do work or unusable energy in a system.

The second law has to do with a closed system, the earth is not a closed system, it is an open system. We gain energy from the sky in the form of light from the sun.

  1. [...] stupid argument comes from two misconceptions, both of which I’ve dealt with before (Evolution part 4: Thermodynamics and Order From Disorder) but it wouldn’t be much of a post if I just posted links so [...]
