Life has been found 1.6 kilometres (1 mile) beneath the sea floor at temperatures reaching degrees 100 Celsius (212 Fahrenheit)
The discovery is the deepest life found beneath the sea floor. Life has been found deeper beneath continents but there they are rare.
The bacteria are related to bacteria in
About 60% where alive.
It is unknown where they come from but its possible that they where buried by sediment and adapted to higher pressure and higher temperatures, another possibility is that they where sucked deep into mud from the sea water above.
