If you haven't herd, there is a . What they and most people don't seem to realise is the price of gas is dependant on two things, supply and demand. People seem to think that the gas prices or high cause of some conspiracy by the gas company's and there middle east suppliers. But its not, the reason gas prices are so high and the gas company's are making so much money is cause of supply and demand.
The higher the demand, the higher the prices, the lower the supply the higher the prices and when supply is low and demand is high prices are high and profit for the sellers is high.
There is only so much oil coming in (the supply) and more people want that oil (the demand), the demand for oil is rising. Now we could use the strategic petroleum reserve to temporally lower prises but it would only be temporary, eventually it will be gone and we would have lost an important asset that could be needed in the future. The only real way to lower gas prices is to increase the supply in a sustainable way (suck more oil out of the ground) but demand is still going to grow and as long as its growing the price is going to go up.
The only real long term solution is to make more fuel efficient vehicles. Greater fuel efficiency would mean less gas is used which would decrease the demand and this the prices.

I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE A REVOLT.. LIKE WHEN THE PEOPLE REVOLTED IN THE “BOSTON TEA PARTY” INCIDENT…………….
WHAT DOES EVERYONE SAY?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????/
As I said, the high gas prises are cause of supply and demand not some conspiracy by the oil company’s. Low supply + high demand = high prices and hight profit.
Why don’t we just blow up half of China and India, to significantly reduce demand?
I hope you are kidding cause there are many reasons not to do that.
I hate to sound callous about this. However, the gasoline crisis was foreseeable in 1973 … and the 1980s … and the 1990s. In 2001, we should have taken note that terrorists are funded by our purchases of gasoline from the oil rich nations of the world.
But, we didn’t.
We chugged merrily on our way buying ever larger and faster cars, after a brief period of sanity in the 1980s when our average fuel economy peaked.
So, now, we pay the price for not doing the right thing when it was blatantly obvious for 30+ years. This is painful. That is true.
However, for the first time in two decades, people are abandoning the idea that their vehicles must be able to accelerate from 0 to 60 in 4 seconds flat up the side of a mountain.
Good.
It will be painful while we adjust to the real world. However, it is utterly necessary. We have proven ourselves incapable of making smart decisions just because they are smart decisions. So, now we will have to painfully adjust our ideas to compensate for our lack of foresight.
BTW, Europe averages 44 MPG from their fleet. Japan averages 45 MPG from theirs. This is definitely doable. In fact, in 1999, GM (of all companies) came out with a nice two seat sports car, similar to the corvette that was capable of going 150 miles on a charge, purely by electricity.
This made Japan so nervous that they developed the electric engine currently in use in the Prius in response to the .
Now, if they get the Volt out on time, it will prove that GM can go from 150 miles per charge to 40 miles per charge in just 11 years.
(sarcasm) Way to go GM!! (/sarcasm)
